Documents & Sharing
Generate real documents from project data, and hand out scoped, read-only links.
Documents
A project's Docs tab is a lightweight editor (Markdown, with a formatting toolbar) for documents generated from the project rather than typed from a blank page. Templates available:
- System Overview
- Installation Guide
- Network Configuration
- Commissioning Checklist
- Troubleshooting
- Handoff Manual
- Strike / Return Guide
External links
Not everything about a project lives in Practical Set — the call sheet is in Google Docs, the plates are in Dropbox, the venue has its own booking page. The Docs tab's sidebar has a Links pane for those: a name, a URL, a category and tags, filtered and grouped exactly like the Library.
While writing a document, Insert link drops a markdown link to any of them at your cursor. Highlight some words first and they become the link text.
These are pointers, nothing more — the app never copies or mirrors what they point at. That's deliberate: a mirrored copy of someone else's doc goes stale without telling you.
QR codes for a document
Any share link you create for a document can be shown as a QR code and printed on its own sheet — handy taped inside a flight case or next to a rack, so whoever opens it can pull up the install guide on their phone. Password-protected links work the same way; scanning just asks for the password first.
Share links
A share link can point at a whole project, a single document, or a buy list, and grants one of three permissions:
- View — read-only.
- Comment — read, plus leaving comments.
- Purchase — a guest can act on purchasing without full project access (requires a plan with guest purchasing).
Links can optionally be password-protected, set to expire, and allow or block downloads — all per link, from the share dialog on the thing you're sharing.
A client-facing link and a purchasing link to the same project show different views by design — a client sees the read-only picture, a freelancer placing orders sees the Buying view and nothing else.
